Asia’s First New Hyper-Reality Star Wars™ VR Experience Coming to Resorts World Genting
Genting Highlands, 7 September 2018: From a galaxy far, far away comes the first multi-sensory immersive experience of its kind in Asia that blurs the line between the physical and virtual world that you can explore with friends and companions.

Resorts World Genting and The VOID today announced that the first-of-its-kind hyper-reality experience, Star WarsTM: Secrets of the Empire created in collaboration with ILMxLAB, is coming to Asia later this year.

It will be The VOID’s first venture outside of America and the UK, making this experience at Resorts World Genting the first in Asia. This location-based VR experience will be brought to new heights, quite literally at 6000 feet above sea level.  It will be one of the key attractions at the resort which received almost 25 million visitors last year. This will exist alongside dining and retail outlets as well as entertainment attractions that will include the upcoming indoor and outdoor theme parks.

Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire will take guests through a breathtaking journey into the Star Wars universe allowing them to walk freely and untethered on an interactive stage. Reality and imagination mix to deliver fully immersive experiences that evoke all the senses, where guests will feel the impact of blaster bolts, smell the smoke from the surrounding environment, push buttons to solve an interactive puzzle to escape enemies, all while coordinating directly with their unit in real time through the blended virtual and physical world.




Under the orders of the rebellion, teams of four travel to the molten planet of Mustafar and sneak onto an Imperial Base. During the mission, you’ll encounter familiar Star Wars characters as you navigate dangers at every turn.

KUALA LUMPUR, 5 JANUARY 2018 – A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away (3 years to be exact), we awoke to an exciting dream of honoring one of pop culture’s most iconic symbols known to mankind – the lightsaber – to be translated into an everyday item. So we thought, what better way to incorporate a little bit of the Light (or Dark, depending on how you look at it really) Side of The Force than by materializing our dream in the form of one of life’s most overlooked yet commonly possessed item.. a lighter. That’s when it hit us – why not create something that is useful, not only to us but to fans across the galaxy.



With this vision in mind, we at Expedio Design are proud to present to you the LighterSaber – a prototypical Star Wars-inspired pop culture device to be held and ignited in your very own hands. It has been over 1,000 moons since our first awakening and our passionate band of rebels here at Expedio Design has since been on a personal quest to develop the prototype design, the mechanism, to perfect how it feels when grasped, and most importantly, to exact the recognisable sound effect launched upon each ignition of the LighterSaber’s powerful flame.

“The 3-year journey of bringing the LighterSaber to life has been such a fulfilling one for all of us involved. Our love for the Star Wars galaxy coupled with our fervent passion for product engineering has brought the LighterSaber closer to reality. We speak to all Star Wars fans out there who we believe will come out in full force to join us on our quest to bring this one-of-a-kind made-in-Malaysia collectible to volume production, enabling anyone and everyone to carry a little piece of the empire in the palm of their hand. Made out of premium zinc alloy and measuring 2.5 cm in diameter and 12.1 cm in length, this customised lighter is wholly inspired by the iconic lightsaber, a pop culture item made famous by the Star Wars movie franchise. Whilst the Jedi’s lightsaber is powered by kyber crystal, the LighterSaber requires only your everyday lithium coin cell batteries. The icing on the cake is the special sound effect of the Lightsaber when the flame of the lighter is ignited.

“Our toughest challenge was making the prototype look and feel like a LighterSaber should. It wasn’t easy to create a unique yet practical, everyday product that isn’t only well-designed but extremely easy to use and carry. We hope that other Jedis (and Siths) out there are equally as excited about this product as we are,” said Shea, Lead Engineer of the LighterSaber.

This is the perfect piece for those who appreciate individuality and quirkiness in all aspects of life; those who have always wanted to hold and feel something intergalactic in the palm of their hands. The distinguishable sound effect is an interesting conversation starter and the perfect tool to scare off uninvited guests from outer space – a dream come true for all Star Wars fans out there!
