LOVE FOR THE MUM ENTREPRENEURS ON MOTHER’S DAY

LOVE FOR THE MUM ENTREPRENEURS ON MOTHER’S DAY
Kuala Lumpur, 10 May 2018 – Carousell, one of the world’s largest and fastest growing classified apps, recently collaborated with Samaritan Women, an empowerment group for mothers and single mums, to promote and help mothers in need to be financially independent.

“Besides being entrepreneurs, their added responsibility as mothers poses a larger challenge. As a mumpreneur, success means being the best mum for your kids and living your dreams while at it. That’s a tough job, but they embrace it,” said Tang Siew Wai, Country Head, Carousell Malaysia.

“Carousell will be listing items and services sold by the entrepreneurs of Samaritan Women in conjunction with Mother’s Day on 13 May 2018,” he added.

Noelle Nah Lian Chea, 35, Founder of Samaritan Women

“I was a single mother for seven years before I remarried. It was tough as I had to raise two children. It took me a while before I could find my feet again to be independent because I understand that my children are my priority and I will need to raise them well regardless of the condition”, said Noelle Nah Lian Chia, 33, Founder of Samaritan Women.

Being a single mother is a challenging task which is why Ms. Nah decided to establish Samaritan Women. They help those in need and to ease their burden by providing consultation services and skills training. Since its establishment three years ago, the community has grown and now reaches out to all the mothers in need, regardless of race and background.

While Ms. Nah hopes that no mothers will have to endure through hardship, she urges Malaysian mothers looking to establish themselves in business to approach them should they require their assistance through their new Carousell page.

“We also hope that more individuals and organizations would play a part in improving the conditions of single mothers in Malaysia,” she added.

Noelle is also an emcee that provides services for events.

Yvez Koay Poh Ping, 34, Committee Member of Samaritan Women

“Raising my children alone made me realize that it does take a whole village to raise a child. It is mentally and physically challenging especially for single mothers that have to juggle their career and children. I was lucky to be given an opportunity to start my own printing business with the help of others, but not everyone can be as fortunate as I am.”

“It takes time recalibrate during the process as a single mother, and we hope that our experiences will help other mothers to transit as smoothly as possible. Carousell’s involvement in the community is a role model to all organizations on how they can support single parents in need, and we hope that more people can step forward to show their support.”

Evanne Yong Mei Yin, 43, Committee Member of Samaritan Women

“There are many reasons on how a person would become a single parent. The deceased of a loved one or an incompatible partner could be part of the many reasons. I became a widow and had to raise two children on my own. One of my children is a special child that requires attention at all times and that restricted my ability to earn and support my family. Therefore, I could only limit myself to jobs that do not require ample of time or work that can be completed from home.”

“I knew I had to stay strong for my children. I became an insurance agent, a beauty consultant and a beauty product distributor on Carousell and other social media platforms. Carousell made selling as easy as taking a photo and buying as easy as chatting, all in less than 30 seconds. Becoming a single mother  is a stressful and exhausting journey, but I managed to endure through the process.”

“This is why I have dedicated myself to contribute to the Samaritan Women. Many mothers I knew have pondered the same fate as I do and I would like to tell them that regardless of the situation we face, our children will always be our top priority, and I would like to help them through their journey.”

Carousell Live! To Raise Funds For The Malaysian Red Crescent Society
Kuala Lumpur, 7 March 2018 – The Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) is partnering with Carousell, one of the world’s largest and fastest growing mobile classifieds marketplace for its Carousell LIVE! flea market happening this weekend, 10 and 11 March 2018, at Publika, Solaris Dutamas. The event will be used to raise fund for MRCS’ activities such as the disaster relief operation, health and community service, capacity building as well as in youth development.

The event will provide a physical platform for MRCS to sell their pre-loved goods donated by the public as part of its on-going efforts to raise funds. The items will be listed on Carousell to extend the fundraising’s outreach beyond Klang Valley.

Carousell LIVE! will also feature booths by 20 top Carousellers and celebrities such as Zahiril Adzim, Sheira Ayoub, Nadia Brian, Sarah Hidelbrand, Nabil Mahir, Shalma Ainaa, and Natrah, who will be selling new and pre-loved items in the fashion, accessories, art and electronic goods categories. Visitors will almost certainly find some great deals for these pre-loved items.

This marks Carousell’s continued commitment towards a community-driven mobile marketplace, which promotes a sustainable lifestyle.  This vision is very much shared by MRCS, with its strong foundation built on humanity, independence, neutrality, impartiality, voluntary service, unity and universality, the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

“Carousell LIVE! is more than just an avenue for Carousellers to display and sell their goods. It is also a platform for us to contribute back to the society through such significant partnerships, like this one with MRCS. As an established humanitarian society that has dedicated its services to Malaysians for 70 years, we hope Malaysians will show their support at this event and assist in funding their operations,” said Lucas Ngoo, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Carousell.

The fundraising collaboration highlights the importance of joint engagement to build a safer and disaster-resilient country.

“MRCS gratefully welcomes this fundraising partnership in the spirit of community engagement and reaffirm our commitment to the alleviation of human suffering in the aftermath of natural and man-made disasters and other related challenges in the country,” said Dato’ Sayed A. Rahman Sayed Mohd, Secretary General of MRCS.

MRCS is presently one of 191 National Societies that are members of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), which together with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) are components of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

Founded by three passionate and enterprising men in Singapore, Lucas Ngoo, Quek Siu Rui and Marcus Tan in 2012, Carousell is a mobile and online consumer to consumer marketplace for buying and selling new and second-hand goods available in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Australia.
