Malaysia’s biggest Columbia Asia Hospital Opens in Tebrau

Tebrau, Johor – March 26, 2020 – Columbia Asia has been serving the healthcare needs of Malaysians for over 20 years. After having successfully established one of our flagship hospitals, Columbia Asia Hospital at Iskandar Puteri in 2010, we are pleased to introduce our second hospital in Johor ─ Columbia Asia Hospital – Tebrau.

Columbia Asia Hospital – Tebrau started operations on November 27, 2019. It is the 13^th Columbia Asia hospital in Malaysia and 19^th in South East Asia. Standing at four storeys high, it is the biggest among all Columbia Asia hospitals in Malaysia.

Located at a high-traffic residential hub of Kota Southkey, the hospital is only 7km away from the heart of Johor Bahru city centre. Its vicinity is surrounded by residential areas such as Taman Sentosa, Taman Sri Tebrau, Kampung Melayu Majidee, Taman Pelangi, Taman Abad, Taman Kebun Teh, Taman Century, Taman Melodies, Taman Suria and Taman Kota Southkey. To cater to the vast Tebrau community, this hospital is equipped with more than 200 parking bays.

Above and beyond its modern amenities and well-credentialed doctors and nurses, Columbia Asia hospitals lead the private healthcare trend with new and less invasive medical treatments, which means shorter length of hospital stays. The hospital also houses a Cardiac Catheterization Lab, Lithotripsy Room, Mammography, Ultrasound, 128-slice CT Scan, 1.5 Tesla MRI, Pharmacy, Laboratory, Physiotherapy Room, Isolation Room, ICU, Labor Rooms and five fully equipped Operating Theatres.

“The move to build a second hospital in Johor comes from our observation that there is a shortage of healthcare facilities here to adequately serve Johor Bahru’s increasing population. As there are insufficient hospitals in the region, we are providing more options for patients who are traveling here in search of medical treatment,” says Rahani Yaacob, Regional General Manager of Columbia Asia Hospital – Tebrau and Iskandar Puteri.

She explains that as the Columbia Asia hospital in Iskandar Puteri is almost at full capacity, the time is appropriate for a new extension for the group. With the opening of the Tebrau hospital, more people in Johor Bahru will be able to have their healthcare needs met.

“Columbia Asia Hospital – Tebrau is the only hospital in our group with a capacity of 205 beds, which is different from our usual hospital structure. Our other medical facilities house no more than 100 beds per hospital. With the high demand in private healthcare in Johor, we decided to build a bigger hospital in Tebrau to better fulfil the healthcare needs of communities here,” Rahani adds.

As Malaysia sees an influx of affluent foreign patients seeking treatment here, Rahani points out that Columbia Asia Hospital – Tebrau is poised to capture the growing demand, including patients from Singapore and Indonesia.

“Other than bringing quality private healthcare access to Johoreans, the new hospital will also contribute to the community by creating more job opportunities. Not only that, we have many exciting campaigns planned, to advocate for a healthier lifestyle among the locals,” says Rahani.

Last December, ‘AyuhSihat!’ campaign was held in conjunction with the opening of the hospital in Tebrau. Opened to public participation, the fun-filled day featured a series of activities suitable for all ages, health screenings and special offers on packages offered by the hospital. The event aimed to inspire its attendees to adopt a healthy lifestyle, while all proceeds from the entrance ticket sales went to benefit the Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation (TLJCF).
